Universities have increased today and every country now has a university. But in all universities, staffing and staffing policy have remained important. Amoud University is the largest university in size and capacity in Somaliland. However, over the years, the performance of its academic staff had been low as evidenced by the dearth of written records of research, publications and community service. This study investigated the effect of staffing policy on performance of academic staff of Amoud University, with respect to recruitment, selection and staff development. Guided by the Theory of Staffing, the study was conducted through a cross-sectional survey design, on a sample of 152 academic staff from 13 different faculties in 2014. The study established that recruitment procedures (F [1, 110] = 16.94, p = .000: R = .365, R2 adj. = .126): selection procedures (F [1, 110] = 24.65, p = .000: R = .428, R2 adj. = .176): and staff development (F [1, 110] = 16.18, p = .000, R = .358, R2 adj. = .120) have a significant effect on performance of the academic staff. The study concluded that staffing policy has significant effect on the performance of academic staff of Amoud University.
