Ante-natal care is a long-standing obstetric and midwifery example of a process of continuous risk assessment, which tailors the provision of care to the level of objectively identified risks. This continuous risk assessment allows appropriate triaging of pregnant women into high, low or intermediate risk groups. This concept is however dynamic rather than static and pregnancies can move in either direction up to the post natal period. This book has been put together as a useful resource for midwives, obstetricians, general practitioners, anaesthetists and general physicians who have direct input into the care of pregnant women with co-existing medical disorders. The template follows a risk identification and risk reduction approach: a model which can be employed in many other medical disorders not listed in this book
