As soon as an iron road joins the province, on one hand, with Western Europe, and with Turkey, the Levant, and the vast East, on the other, the propitious combinations become so manifold, that evident as the result must be, one is almost inclined to believe that Fancy is here playing a part and throwing a brilliancy over the contemplated picture. But it is not so: and sober reasoning, incredulous at first, is forced to own that the colouring is real. To Transylvania, the existence of railway communication with the rest of Europe is of such vital importance, that any line, no matter which, would, one might think, have been eagerly accepted.* The Hungarians, however, were so determined on the Klausenburg line, that every nerve was strained to have it carried out.
