Airne's pictures provide a good resource for a period in history, where there are very few illustrations and the pictures very cleverly reflect the various stages of medieval history from Angevin times, Plantagenet and then Wars of the Roses.. All aspects are covered, some architectural points, scenes of friars preaching, plague ridden streets, trade, pass times, ships etc . There are many drawings on each page, drawn from historical documents and some created by him. Cistercians are also covered. It is very interesting just to look at, but good to give one ideas for a flavour of the times.
